I’m Anthony Jake La. But if you know me personally, just call me Anthony (not Jake, like people familiar with me on the internet do). I’m a tech-obsessed geek. Yes, a geek. It started with traffic lights and light switches, and then trains, and then computers (and then trains again). Now I’m about technology in general.
I’m a Bachelor of Technology student from RMIT University. While I enjoy knowing how computers work, I have a much bigger passion in designing stuff. Stuff like the web page you see right now.
And I’m passionate about Macintosh. My first Mac was a Rev. D iMac, but I’ve been working with, crashing, and exploiting Macs in school since I was six. I know the (non-programming side of) Mac OS from top-to-bottom, and am on my way to completing an ACMT. (I aced the OS troubleshooting exam.) Maybe you should ask me for help.
I also have a passion for Hockey, both in watching and playing. I’ve never really been a team sports guy, but this year was when I found a passion in it. I’m not a good player (yet).
And I work voluntarily at a primary school, helping teachers and students get things done. I enjoy getting a kick out of seeing people actually manage to do what they want to do.
What’s In The Bag?
What tech-crazed geek doesn’t have effective tools of the trade?
At the moment, I’m working with a 2008 Unibody MacBook—I had a Retina Display MacBook Pro, but am currently saving up for a model decked with 16 GB of RAM. Though four years old (bought in 2009) with a 256 GB SSD and 8 gigs of RAM, it lasts quite a while and does things moderately fast.
A Canon EOS M with two EF-M lenses form the basis of any photos I take. I use both the EF-M 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM zoom lens and the EF-M 22mm pancake lens, with the pancake lens used most regularly. I regularly avoid using a flash.
The iPhone and iPad are the other counterparts, and they’re the most helpful tools in the lot. That said, they’re not decked out with anything in particular (green smart cover is nice enough though.)
About That’s Our Switch
With a Facebook account, Twitter account, several forum accounts (some with blogs on them) and several blogs on the web, plus lots of unmaintained, unorganised content worth putting on the web once more, I thought it was time to get my own personal web site up once more. Some of the content here is cross-posted from my various places on the web, just to keep everything back in one central “me” place.
Musings and outright opinions on this site are mine only and do not represent the views of clients or people whom I work with.
